Howdy,
I'm not so sure I agree, isn't there disabled access to consider, and from
your photo's it looks like <1.2m path width available and our council won't
fight claims of <£5,000 so a trip claim is easy to get an award from. Is it
possible to liaise with Highways to reduce the claims by removal and
replanting?

Subject: Just plain wrong!
I have just taken these photo's of a plane stump, the tree was removed
last sunday at the insistence of our highway engineers. Unfortunately my
objection could not help the tree as there have been a dis-proportionate
number of trip and slip claims due to this tree. Also highway were
adamants that as they have repaired the foot path inumerous times in the
past there was no further works that could be done.
Obviously someone wasn't too impressed. I suppose it shows that not all
people are against street trees.
