Just thought I'd lob in the opposite view - it's nearly the Christmas break
& I fancy a rant...
I wouldn't have thought it worthwhile bothering wasting time to find out the
blatantly obvious. For urban areas at least.
Where are your TPOs concentrated? Where the trees are. And where are most of
the trees? Where's there's more space. Where do your wealthier residents
choose to live? Not in tower blocks for sure.
This is not to say that Scrote's Oak on the Burntdown Tenements Estate won't
or should'nt have a TPO on it. It just that there's fewer trees there, so
there's less probability of finding a tree to slap a TPO on. Nor does it
mean that it has any less social/community value than
Farquharson-Cholmondley's Oak in Lardeedah Gardens. Probably has more in
fact.
Also consider. Who is likely to be the major landowner in the areas where
the socially deprived live? And are they likely to TPO their own trees?
'Nother thing to consider. What are TPOs really for? To stop the bu**ers
cutting the trees down. And who's most like to be able to afford to do that?
So, where are TPOs really needed?
And another thing. As to spending rate-payer's cash in affluent areas, where
does the LA spend its Housing tree maintenance budget (Ok, some of you might
not have one). And who is likely to live there?
TPOs, per se, are sod all to do with socio-economics. The problem is: there
are fewer trees in the less affluent areas, so what are we going do about
it?
