John Flannigan (30/12/2004 13:17):
What I'm guessing is that the proportions won't be the same i.e. more trees
(as a proportion) will be protected in more affluent areas because
protection of urban trees in this fashion is strongly influenced by
demographics - in other words if your reasonably wealthy and educated you're
more likely to 1) have knowledge about tree protection, 2) Be aware of the
benefits of trees 3) Know what buttons to push at the Town Hall.
Is'nt it about where the best trees are ?, & most of the time these will be in
the affluent areas because they have the older more established gardens , the
fact that the owner is wealthy should make no odds to who ever is carrying out
the tpo survey or the LA , If dog dirt alley has gardens the size of a postage
stamp with the odd sorbus or prunus here & there which won't grow to full
potential because they are too close to the wall , path, shed etc , but
foxtrot mews has half acre gardens with big oaks & cedars that can be seen
from
half a mile away then it's quite likely that the trees in foxtrot mews are a
higher priority for protection then dog dirt alley . am I missing point ? , I
don't do much planning work .( thankfully )
