Andrew Hi
Yes, this is certainly true and I don't deny it - most of the time
we're floundering around in the dark and as John Lennon said, "you
think you're so clever, so classless and free, but etc."
But cast your mind back to that unattractive kid in the playground who
always responded to every new set-back, "see I told you it wouldn't
work!" Did you like him?
We can equally say, it is a pleasing fact that human intervention helps
to lighten the suffering.
Man makes both his own heaven and hell on the earth. Sadly, I think
there is a forceful tendency to find only the hell in human endeavor,
an almost self-fulfilling tendency.
It is this negative mind-set, not its truths that I find unhealthy and
a little too pervading:
"A truth that's told with bad intent Beats all the lies you can invent. It is right it should be so; Man was made for Joy and Woe; And when this we rightly know, Thro' the World we safely go, Joy and woe are woven fine, A clothing for the soul divine."
