Perhaps Dealga is lurking. I seem to recall his posting some years ago that
in UK law "chartered" status cofers certain rights or assumptions in terms
of being "professional" which for good or ill has weight in court and
regulatoy proceedings.

Accountants.....

The idea of being a chartered anything does nothing for me; it's just a
word.
