Fw: Can anyone help to identify this tree?

Subject: Fw: Can anyone help to identify this tree?

Well I thought populus when I looked at the first photo. But the second,
close-up made me wonder. Mind you I'm not strong on dendrology, but the
close-up looks like a smooth leaf margin and my first thought was lilac
but its not a shrub lilac trunk.. The poplars I'm familiar with have a
cerrate or dentate leaf margin.

Its certainly a poplar, and probably one of the numerous matchstick
hybrids,
but I must leave the detail to a more eminent botanist...Quoting Anna
<anna@xxxxxxxxxx.fsnet.co.uk>:

I've been asked to identify this tree, which seems to be very common all
over Britanny, from the attached photo (2 more will follow in the next
email)
Can anyone help please , as I do not have a lot of experience in this
area? Thanks!
I wondered if it is a Poplar cross, maybe between a Balsam and a Black
Poplar?
