I found G resinaceum on a middle aged beech in Bath last year. It was
annual, shiny and rubbery, not hard. I tried to convince myself that it was
G.
pfeifferi, but it just didn't fit, so I came to the conclusion that it was a
G
resinaceum that hadn't read the books.

The tree didn't appear to have noticed. Resistograph drilling revealed very
little decay in the trunk. Get attable roots were sound but the book
suggests that decay may be in the inner/upper roots.

Verdict in consultation with TO - reduce and monitor. (It's next to a
hospital casualty department!)
