Sorry I did not make that clear Chris.  I was actually referring back to 
Bill's post quoted following:

  the 12 relates to single stemmed trees being *12 the dia
  and multiple stemmed trees being *10 the dia

  do you mean using Y for single stem and anything else for multiple?

  Thats probably easier way
