I attach extracts from Hansard relating to two recent Parliamentary
Questions about ODPM's view that Councils cannot order action - under
Part 8 of the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003 - that would result in the
death of a high hedge.
for those of you that haven't bothered to read Julie's extracts from Hansard
here is my choice bit:
Lord Bassam of Brighton: My Lords, the noble Lord obviously does not know
that, as we speak, we have an armed snatch squad of inspectors touring up and
down the country looking for these fast-growing leylandii cypress, and they
are
due to report back shortly.
Lord Hanningfield: My Lords, we know only too well of the bitterness, anger
and resentment that disputes of that nature can cause between neighbours and
how they can sour relationships for years, if not decades. Can the Minister
therefore confirm that legislation will be used to settle one of the longest
and
worst examples of this type of dispute-that is, of course, the one between
Nos.
10 and 11 Downing Street?
Ho Ho.
Bill.
