I 've been trying for some time now to get a definitive answer on how and
where we are to find updated plant names (or insects, fungi as well for that
matter).
Before you all direct me to the RHS Plantfinder, Kew website, etc, etc, let
me be a bit more specific. Betula lutea is no more. Betula alleghaniensis it
it now. Try looking up B. lutea in the plantfinder or elsewhere. Sure enough
its not there because it no longer exists. In this case no problem as B.
alleghaniensis was a synonym. But what if this had been an entirely new
name.
There surely must be A source which lists all changes. If not, and the
numerous recent ones, (Ustulina, Cedrus (x several) Leylands,)just filtering
down to us at random, then how many more are we missing ?
