Thanks for the various replies!

It would seem that unless someone can come up with a surer method which
catches all, our best procedure is to spend ?15.00 a year (current) on the
RGS Plant Finder. 

If the name is not in there I'll take exception to anyone correcting me on
nomenclature.

For info. the 2005-6 volume has Leyland back as X Cupressocyparis leylandii
and the Cedars still as separate species.
