David Rose made some comments about this chemical recently. It is not
approved as there is no scientific evidence that it is effective. However
that doesn't mean it still isn't being used/sold etc etc due to good profit
margins etc
Orchids - google search "orchids armillaria" throws up a few links to
associations between the two. No time for more.

Subject: Predatory Orchids
HNY one and all!
Just found on a website (www.stumpbusters.co.uk) the following Q&A's
concerning Honey Fungus:
"Q. What can I do about the underground rhizomorphs invading
neighbouring trees?
A. rhizomorph will push through thick polythene and even if severed from
the source will continue its mission. Treat with Armillatox.
(http://www.armillatox.co.uk/ go to the honey fungus page). This
deflects the rhizomorphs to the surface where sunlight kills them.
Q. Do I have to use chemicals?
A. No. You can grow Early Purple Orchids, which are predators. Growing
them will tax your horticultural skills to the limit."
My Q's:
i) Do we have any evidence that treatment with what is now called
/*"Armillatox Soap Based Outdoor Cleaner" *//**/(to avoid the herbicide
regulations, apparently) will actually "deflect the rhizomorphs to the
surface where sunlight kills them"?
and
ii) Predatory orchids?? as a way of controlling Armillaria??? Has anyone
heard of this? Clearly it's wholly impractical in terms of dealing with
with an outbreak of HF, but has anyone got any A's as to any research it
might be based on?

(PS - Thanks for the Firefox short-cut, Chris!)
