Even low volume print runs are very cheap, I looked into it for
www.agroforestry.co.uk, he now subs the printing to a local firm, less
than a quid for a run of 250 40 page A5 booklets, less than 5op for 500.
And like you say PDF's cost nothing except hosting, which ain't a lot.
