Newly planted woodland on ex-agricultural land. Heavy clay. Planted as
1+1s, main species ash and oak. Can anyone give me a rough idea of how
long it will be before we have a top height of 15m. I'm sure Fieldbook
39 would help, but its on the shelf at home and I need to get a reasoned
answer to planners now.

Chris

Never mind the text books as they mostly apply to forestry sites.

The key question is what sort of agricultural land - grass or cereal?

500 mm/ yr on ex-arable is not unreasonable with good initial weed control.

50mm/ yr on compacted grassland with poor weed control is not uncommon.

Adam
