Actually although he is an arb consultant his current day job is land 
surveying.  And he picked up the habit while doing ecological surveys.  Even 
a few drops of rain will make the ink run.  And the real point was that 
regardless of weather his ordianry and routine habit is pencil.  Always.  NOt 
just in wet weather.  Thus the deposing lawyer could not easily suggest that 
pencil was used in certain cases to enable sneaky erasures.
