I would discount BS 4043 as it is rather out of date and concentrates on the
transplanting of non-nursery stock.
I would ask for a detailed method statement regarding planting and support
as well as a 2 or 3 year maintenance programme.
Most specialist planting contractors will not guarantee the survival of a
semi-mature tree unless they are involved in the after care.
Briefly, some of the key points would be:
Root preparation
Handling and transportation
Pit preparation
Drainage
Backfill content
Support system
Mulching and feeding
Aftercare

Aside from BS 4043, can anyone provide me with info relating to the prep,
planting and aftercare of semi-matures trees. We have received details
relating to the proposed planting of a 11m tall False Acacia in a very
prominent location within the borough and I want assurances that it will
succeed / flourish after planting. Anything specific to look out for as part
of this operation ?

Many thanks
