I was at Woodland Trust conference a couple of weeks back and the tree was  
discussed in relation to it being a notable tree for historic reasons, no-one 
 
said anything about it being felled. Seems very young to have such a terrible 
 
"fungal infection"
 
Like you say David it would be nice to know a few more details, and what  the 
fungal infection was. Mind you I have a feeling we shall not hear from the  
arb who condemned it
