The ref to "Curling up toes" was a Pythonesque way of saying that is in
decline. No evidence of major bark die back from ground level or even
minor dieback as it happens. I'm going to sling a rope up it next week
and get a closer look at the limbs affected, will report back then.

I've just returned from prison.
Rather, from a prison where I had an appointment to look at a 'dangerous
tree'. The entire crown is chlorotic, large areas of bark necrosis,
evidence of bleeding canker, cambium dysfunction and then some! .... all
the other Chestnuts nearby on the site have similar symptoms - albeit
not as advanced.
Has there been a noticeable increase in H.Chestnut decline / dysfunction
this year?

Morning all
Just a quick asides for you. On Monday morning I had a meeting with a
local Vicar to discuss the removal of a completely fecked Aesculus hipp
in his churchyard, carried out the usual vis inspection of other trees
(full inspection took place earlier this year), no major nightmares just
the usual for trees of that particular age and type.
Now then, went back yesterday to oversee the fell, and one of the
nearish trees (another Aesculus hipp) has curled up its toes and looks
pretty much on the way to meeting its maker. All leaves on two thirds of
the crown have become completely chlorotic, no visible evidence of
sporophores, rhizomorphs, Bleeding Canker, Phytophora, Guignardia, etc.
This tree stands on the boundary of the churchyard and there is no
evidence whatsoever of any nefarious actions of any kind.
Early autumn? Perhaps, but on only one tree (and only part of the
crown)?

4 days for complete decline, god that's quick!
