First time I heard Pleached was from a Derbyshire farmer, he pronounced it
'Plaitched' to rhyme with with plate.... This job's in Lincolnshire anyway

I think my confusion comes from Laying generally; the dog lies on the mat
even though he's layed there. 'Layed' isn't in the OED but layering is as
is
laid, but the sexual connotations of laid make it unattractive.

Clear as mud now but thanks all.
