Just an opinion and not the official party line. I just feel there could
potentially and hypothetically be problems where for instance a 'local
authority approved' arborist doesn't keep up the public liability
payments and drops a tree on something breakable (head, house, car etc).
The LA would need to actively and constantly update the list to ensure
that this never happens. Is this always viable?
Just a thought
Alastair

I am happy in myself that I am a competent and experienced
Arboriculturist but it is not my place or the place of a local authority
to make that sort of judgement about others by producing a 'Council
list'. The AA has proven competent at this activity over the years and
there may be room for others.
Following on from the Find tree surgeon etc thread, this comment from
Alastair caught my attention. We maintain a Council Approved list of
Contractors as do several other Local Authoritys in the area. Personally
I find it an excellent guide for the public and its always one of the
first things we get asked for. We don't make it mandatory and the list
is open to all local contractors who satisfy the requirements (based on
HSE requirements, insurance, and reccomendations from two local
authorities etc). We also make reference to to the AA list. We've had
zero problems with this approach.
