Forgetting differing root morphology,
would it be simpler to liken a tree to a pot grown plant. Humous rich
and free draining soils produce localised fibrous roots. Whereas poor,
compacted soils stimulate the plant to produce adventitious root growths
which may extend beyond the pot. Each would appear healthy, though if
they both went through a process of soil volume severance/removal by 20%
then it is likely one would become adversely affected.
Development sites therefore need to be assessed individually for a
variety of points, and this is important if contemplating the reduction
in the size of a RPA of a tree to be retained in a healthy condition.
