Hi Topher

I Have has some experience with this frame. A chap called Ian Hutchinson
bought one for planking to make boats.
I remember being able to carry it into the woods in bits and assembling it
around the log. We used a big husky and changed it to a 325 pitch chain.
It did take a while to get used to it,keeping the cut true. Unfortunately
Ian died and as fare as I know his wife would like to sell it. If you are
interested please contact me off line

Subject: Alaskan saw mill

With the end of the financial year drawing nigh, my thoughts turn to a last
bit of shopping.

One thing that caught my eye was an Alaska Saw Mill, I think in the Buxtons
catalogue. This being one of those frames with guide bars that you fit onto
a big saw to allow you to cut boards etc out of round timber.

We don't produce a huige amount of timber here, but it is often rather
interesting stuff, and we do have a looming problem with disposing of larger
wood, and it occurs that this might be a good investment for a few hundred
quid.

Has anyone experience of using this sort of 'low-tech' kit? I can't justify
a logosol or other portable sawmill, but I could see this sort of thing
being useful, but only if it actually works! No point other wise.

Beofre anyone asks, I also have a big saw and a very skilful operator! (not
myself, I should stress)

Thanks,

Topher
