You might ask Merrist Wood. Twenty odd years ago John Whitehead was trying
some bridging grafts on trees that had been ring barked by stock. These were
growing down near the Machinery Department. Might be interesting to know if
they are still there.

Subject: Bridge Grafting for Ring Bark victims
We have a situation where an old Oak tree has been repeatedly damaged.
There isn't a good enough reason for this and I would like it to survive
if possible.
Has anyone attempted bridge grafting with success.
Ian
