lone working

Subject: lone working

This weekend, my neighbour was using a chainsaw at the top of a 20 foot
ladder. He was on his own and had no safety equipment.

Am I right in thinking that amateur accidents with saws get lumped in with
professional statistics?

Also, we have had problems with our telephones over the weekend. The lone
(and quite elderly) BT operative had to climb the 8m pole outside our house
and had to open up an inspection chamber adjacent to a fast straight of A
road - without any assistance.

That seems a little different to what is expected of arbs...?
