Subject: "APPROVED CONTRACTORS"
I know of many good Tree Work contractors who are AA Approved - and also
quite a few that are not.
Today, I have come across some advertising literature from a tree work
company (that I have absolutely no knowledge of) who describe themselves
"NPTC Approved" and "Trading Standards Approved"
Can anyone tell me what this means/involves?
The NPTC only issue certificates of competence to individuals, not companies
or firms. Therefore, the best they could say is that their staff are
qualified to NPTC standards. To say they are approved is stretching it a
Local Trading Standards departments operate the 'Buy with Confidence Scheme'
whereby individuals, companies or firms are vetted, and if they make the
grade, they are allowed to enter the 'Buy With Confidence' register. This
could be deemed as being approved by the Trading Standards, but 'Buy With
Confidence Members' are allowed to use a specific logo to advertise the
fact. So if there was no logo, they probably aren't approved.
