As ever, things are not that straightforward and one has to look at the
market profile of AAACs and other good contractors. AAACs are promoted
through the AA and within the world of arboriculture (especially LPAs but
also those wishing to employ or recommend companies that will not jeopardise
one's reputation) they are a "known quantity".
The TrustMark is a national quality assurance scheme and will be of direct
benefit to those who advertise by offering a benchmark that the public
(well, more of them anyway) will recognise and ascribe some weight to. The
AA will also promote them, because there will be stringent qualifying
criteria in terms of standards of work.
Now I'm not going to put my head in a noose by suggesting what those might
be because this is being decided by those steeped in contractual work.
The choice will be that a punter can expect a certain level of service from
both TrustMark and AARCs, and as ever it would be for them to decide which
to use onn the basis of competition - at the very least they can expect
"like for like" outfits.
The AARC scheme gives an even better level of assurance which is probably
more attractive to larger clients/contracts.
I do take your point Peter and the AA is working with the TrustMark mob to
ensure that the promotion is done in a way that gives the average member of
the public - currently at a loss as to the plethora of logos, qualifications
and self-penned plaudits - some comfort that across a whole range of
occupations, government standards have been achieved (er ... is that a good
thing?!!)
