" Some way of recognising them is clearly needed."
Yes Chris the recognition is the approved contractor status if contractors
are not happy with the scheme as it is then they should get involved and
change it so that they are, don't fragment it!
" This is because it is a scheme covering a wide range of
trades, and being promoted not only by TM themselves, but by the various
awarding bodies in different trades."
Hmm so an accreditation system designed to cover a wide range of trades is
more relevant to a potential user than one from the industry representative
body interesting thought.
" TM will be important primarily to contractors targeting the
domestic market. AAAC may well continue to be more important to
corporate buyers of tree work services."
A provider of contracting services will if they are professional target the
market where their particular services are most effective but surely one
standard can encompass this range of service provision the principals
involved in the provision of service to Mrs. Smith and her Cherry tree or a
large corporate body should be the same.
" One concern I have is that some of those contractors who
will not go for AAAC will also not go for TM simply because it is being
administered by the AA."
You seem to be saying that some people/contractors have a problem with the
AA, if this is the case then again they should get involved and do something
about it at the end of the day the Arboricultural Association is a
representative body if you are involved in Arboriculture and you feel it is
not representing you then whose fault is that! it's a bit like saying I
don't like the government having not bothered to vote.
"(how many people on the street know what 'arboricultural' means, let alone
what
the AAAC scheme is)
You can bet your bottom dollar Chris that the people I have talked to about
their trees in 25 years of contracting are fully aware of the meaning of
Arboriculture and the relevance of the AAAC scheme to them.
Just as an aside in unity there is also power it is true to say that as a
unified force the AAAC's brought about some fundamental changes in the
structure and operation of the AA in the past, unfortunately those changes
have not been progressed as vigorously as they could have been, possibly
because attention was elsewhere!
If there were enough unified contractors we could stand up to other bodies
who seem to want to interfere with our methods etc etc ad nauseaum and say
no we are the people doing this we know what is best... we won't be able to
do that as a bunch of disparate TM, AAAC's and "council approved contractors
If we don't stand together then we don't stand.
