We had a case here where half the hawthorn in a street died bit by bit

I propose that Nick might be jumping the gun a bit here (emphasis on the
'might'). But the Chanticleer Pear outside my house is shedding leaves.
(quite
rapidly) This is down to Powdery Mildew of some sort. I think the warm
weather
of the last few days, coming hot on the heels of damp weather, has just
given rise to the usual fungal foliage diseases and we can probably
anticipate it
not becoming a major problem. I note also that London Planes hereabouts are
late into leaf; possibly showing signs of Anthracnose, which might also be
weather related. When the Pops and Willows get a bit further on (on the leaf
production front) we might find they suffer similarly from the Scab and Rust
that we might associate with warm muggy weather.
However the temperature round here dropped from 22 degrees to 10 degrees
with some reasonable breeze last night so we might find these problems
stopped
in their tracks.
Bill.
