What exactly do you mean by a "secondary infection" Ron?
I'd've been thinking Phellinus igniarius for Ian's conk. I did point out
last year sometime that we found a bright yellow bracket on Poplar
(Laetiporus-yellow) that rapidly turned a fawny colour and proved to be
Perennipra
fraxinea. I think we so seldom see P fraxinea that it's not been adequately
described yet. (Then again we could be wrong)
