Bill asks. "What exactly do you mean by a "secondary infection" Ron?"
Bill
Fomitopsis is both a parasitic and saprophytic brown rot, which usually
enters a tree following its decline from other decay organisms, fungi,
insects etc. Usually found on dead wood (Beech wood) it is not normally
a primary agent of infection. In other words, something else is going on
if Fomes is present, but usually the tree is well on its way by the time
the Fomes fruiting bodies becomes obvious.
Ron.
