TREES: THE KEY TO CLIMATE PROOFING OUR CITIES- London, 10th July 2008.
A 10% increase in urban tree cover could neutralise rising city
temperatures, but large trees with irreplaceable climate-control benefits
are being lost at an alarming rate. This pioneering conference explores
practical possibilities to reverse tree loss within current planning
framework. It can be done: our objective is to define how to do it. FINAL

How then, to deal with this administratively? I get a written withdrawal of
the initial section 211 and the simultaneous notification of the negotiated
schedule, all on a signed pro forma which I have provided. I am advised
this is robust and certainly it works well in practice. If the signed pro
forma does not come back to me inside the six week period and the tree
merits it, I will serve the order.

I've done this based on me, the TO, and the client, all signing scribbled
amendments on the original letter.... Then again, I've said to 211 notice
receiving TOs as the deadline approached; "you can have another 6 weeks if
you
want...." I don't want to force them into serving TPOs that they'll then be
forced to defend cos they can't be seen to backtrack.

As Edmund says so eloquently "an absence of rancour," this can work on both
sides and if we're all committed to the idea of ensuring people don't start
to
resent trees then it makes so much sense.

Bill.
