TREES: THE KEY TO CLIMATE PROOFING OUR CITIES- London, 10th July 2008.
A 10% increase in urban tree cover could neutralise rising city
temperatures, but large trees with irreplaceable climate-control benefits
are being lost at an alarming rate. This pioneering conference explores
practical possibilities to reverse tree loss within current planning
framework. It can be done: our objective is to define how to do it. FINAL

<Have any of you got views on the use of herbicides within tree RPAs?
Just had a method of construction statement for a no dig that describes
the control of ground vegetation within the RPA with Glyphosate and the
killing of roots of large shrubs with stump killer.
I'm not so sure this is a good idea. Although I can appreciate that as
long as the Glyph is correctly applied and not allowed to drift this
should be ok. Likewise, as long as root killer is carefully applied it
should not translocate, but I'm a little bit nervous about this all and
would prefer to reject this.>
Part of NJUG talks of damage caused by caustic substances placed under
trees such as cement and diesel. Also the smoke/heat from nearby fires
lit near to the canopy of a retained tree within a development is
described in BS5837 as a no no. Perhaps these could be reworded to
include the use of herbicides in your report.
