Triclopyr was all the rage as a broadleaf herbicide. It is a "sister"
chemical to Glyphosate in that it is systemic and although not as quickly as
Glyphosate, it does become inert on contact with the soil.

The stump killing chemicals came off the market this year (Ammonium
sulphamate) so I believe there is nothing that can be used legally,
therefore it's grubbing out by hand or very carefully with small digger.
Glysophate should only be applied twice in one year on the same area.
The agri industry is now waking up to the fact that their armoury of
chemicals is being reduced by Europe.

Subject: Herbicides within tree RPAs
Have any of you got views on the use of herbicides within tree RPAs?
Just had a method of construction statement for a no dig that describes
the control of ground vegetation within the RPA with Glyphosate and the
killing of roots of large shrubs with stump killer.
I'm not so sure this is a good idea. Although I can appreciate that as
long as the Glyph is correctly applied and not allowed to drift this
should be ok. Likewise, as long as root killer is carefully applied it
should not translocate, but I'm a little bit nervous about this all and
would prefer to reject this.
