In the case of herbicide use beware of the casual advice. Following my own
recollection of there being a semi-persistent effect in the soil I Googled
triclopyr, and there is material there that gives some pointers. The
following link identifies that there is some take-up by the roots, and a
half-life of up to 279 days, dependant upon the soil type and conditions.
You should also consider whether there will be any new planting taking place
on completion. I recall that there should not be any new planting for at
least 3 months, but again this needs to be checked.

* by Ian Monger on the AIE website says that Triclopyr is the approved
substitute for ammonium sulphamate, as SBK Brushwood Killer for amateur use
[though that apparently does not preclude it's use by professionals, and
it's available easily in small quantities] or Timbrel for professionals. I
have not used it for this purpose yet myself, but it's good to hear that it
is inactivated by soil contact as this will presumably prevent any harmful
effects to the roots of other plants, including protected trees, nearby. I
was shocked at the price of 2 litres of Timbrel - £120 inc - but see page 7
[pdf pagination] and on of the booklet at :-* http://tinyurl.com/5sjksu *for
comparisons of the relative efficacy of triclopyr and glyphosate, according
to species and time of year.

Triclopyr was all the rage as a broadleaf herbicide. It is a "sister"
chemical to Glyphosate in that it is systemic and although not as quickly
as
Glyphosate, it does become inert on contact with the soil.
Just a thought.
