Cannock Chase District Council successfully prosecuted Councillor Daniel
Davis, Chair of Cannock Chase DC's Planning Committee and previously
portfolio holder for the environment for a breach of a woodland Tree
Preservation Order at Stafford Magistrates Court on the 14th of August 2008.
Councillor Davis was found guilty off allowing 18 silver birch trees on land
to the rear of his property to be destroyed and was fined £4500 and ordered
to pay costs of £11,678.54.
Incidentally, the woodland that the trees were located in was within the
Cannock Chase AONB and was protected by an SSSI and was designated a Special
Area of Conservation.
