I think they are interesting, and at least bring trees into focus for some of
those people passing by. How many times does your average person actually stop
and look at trees, particularly in a highway setting?

Yep, they will eventually need re-planting, but so what? they will eventually
end up in the ground somewhere for the benefit of all. Anyway, in my opinion 
it
beats that one up in the Lakes (Grizedale?) where a number of trees were
actually planted upside down in the name of art!
