The name change has been muted in the botanical world for the last 15 years.
The article clearly explains why it has been 'moved'.
Basically, it is 'closer' to Cladrastis than it is to the other Sophoras.

Whilst conscious that names change as more is discovered about flora and
fauna, this does seem to be a rather major alteration. Is there a brief
explanation or do I need to do a PhD?
