The name change has been muted in the botanical world for the last 15
years.
The article clearly explains why it has been 'moved'.
Basically, it is 'closer' to Cladrastis than it is to the other Sophoras

I think I need to start lifting or digging things for a living. I've only
just discovered, courtesy of Colin Tudge, that Leguminosae are now Fabaceae,
Compositae are Asteraceae, Palmae are Areaceae and Umbelliferaea are
Apiaceae.

I should have picked up my shovel when I learned some Hardwoods had the
softest wood, the Tasmanian Oak is a Eucalypt, the Mountain Ash is a Sorbus,
the Wollemi Pine isn't, the Parana, Norfolk Island and Chile Pines are
Auracaria, and Mahogany could be any one of a dozen or more trees. Imagine
my shock to discover that Fungi aren't plants and slime moulds aren't fungi.
You'll be telling me spiders aren't insects next.
