Where's your sense of adventure?Look you can fly to Canterbury (or nearby).http://www.manstonairport.org.uk/Look on the left hand column and DIY - it will give you a form to fill in:"Flight Plan Form". You don't get that sort of service at Heathrow do you? You can even get a plan with details of the lighting of the runway and instructions such as :"When coming from the South or SW and already with approach, routing viaDeal Pier will probably get you a join for 'left base for 28' or if 10 in use then a 'downwind 10 RH'." Almost as good as "turn left at the Dartford Crossing" init?and"A radar service is not always available, due to staff manning." That'sreassuring - I'll just look out of the window to see if I can see the runway. But the Fire and Rescue link is the best: it provides a nice set of linkagesto plane crashes and accidents. Not the sort of thing that BA and BAA give high prominence. Highlights include the "DHL 767 Toilet Fire" and a few goodies from Utube.Chocks away!.get a plane and you will be there in no time.Welcome to Battle of Britain land!BigglesPS I did make a suggestion that Reading might be more appropriate thanCanterbury but that was after the decision was made.On 1 Sep 2008, at 14:13, Chris Hastie wrote:I'm all for moving conference about, but it really would be nice if the AA thought about the transport implications of their decisions. Canterbury is acomplete beech to get to fromanywhere outside Kent and SE London.Hear hear! Most of us drive and some of us like to use the train. IMHO venues 'off thebeaten track', like Horticultural colleges or remote corners of Britain, addridiculous costs & unnecessary hasslefor the majority of delegates. Are we professional enough yet to have proper conference venues? I was making this argument 15yrs ago...sigh..., Bill
I did once know the NAAFI manageress at RAF Manston as it was then.
Happy days.
Anyway, the conference venue is a very difficult one to resolve. We
agreed recently to keep four venues and use each in turn only to find
the prices rise too far and we end up having to look elsewhere. The
main trouble is finding a venue with suitable trees located within a
reasonable distance. These are surpirsingly few. Specific confernece
are available and easily booked but they would cost at least double and
the price, and price is one of the more common complaints (despite being
very good value).
We are trying Canterbury but i agree, it does seem like the end of the
world if you are not in Kent, especially if want to travel by train.
Of course, what we really need to know is where the decent pubs that
serve food on the Saturday and Sunday nights. If anyone can let us know
where serves a decent pint (i.e. not Shepherd Neame) within easy reach
of the university I would be very grateful.
