I name that tree in 1 - having walked my kids to school past the
pictured tree the last 3 mornings - that fruit body appeared much later
than the ones around the base of the tree.
The tree is very thin in the crown and fruits appeared about two years
ago - since then the tree has got gradually thinner. Did you notice the
Ganoderma on the trunk of the adjacent, sister beech? Northern side
about 6m above ground level.
Two prominent trees - shame really.
