Thanks Rob, that's great. I don't have a Picus but, I’ve got paper,
coloured crayons, a vivid imagination, and Derek Acorah, which I'm sure will
suffice*.

* The gate post might well be square in cross-section but I'll still apply a
t/R ratio nonetheless, and any passing resemblance between the pretty
picture and the extent of decay in the gatepost, wall, and/or road is not
guaranteed. May contain nuts.
