"How do you refuse it if the system would not have any detrimental impact on
the
tree itself?"
Detrimental?, hmmm. What would be the point of this work? Is there a suspect
fork? If so, is it proposed that the cable should take on the job of
supporting this "weak" fork??? As we know, a tree is a self optimising
organism, so to install a cable that in any way takes on some of the trees
loading WILL have a detrimental effect because the tree will stop doing the
job for itself. If the tree has a weak fork, but is in your opinion fine and
would be quite capable of dealing with any so called "weakness" itself in
the long term, then i suggest that this would be the best thing to do, ie..
let the tree get on with it.
However, if the tree is in such poor condition that it requires bits of rope
to hold it together then perhaps removing the TPO would be a good idea. If
the owner still wants to play about with it after that then let him or her
get on with it.
That said, if the con-tractor just wants to install a very loose fitting
cobra system that will have no effect on the trees loading at all, or in
other words... no effect at all, and the object of the work is more to
reassure the owner than do anything to the tree then I think its a great
idea, what with it being christmas time and the credit crunch and all that, a
bit of money for old rope could come in handy :-)

Cheers Ron
How do you refuse it if the system would not have any detrimental impact on
the
tree itself? I assume it's something like a tree house scenario, you can't
prevent installation provided there is no impact on the tree?
Cheers
