RE: TPOs and bird poo

Hi Liam,

We received an objection to the confirmation of an order on a big
monterey pine back in 2004.

As I recall the RSPB & and department of health web site had good
information on feral pigeons, which often roost in huge numbers in
cities - at that time pigeons where not considered to be a burden to
human health (though they do have to be controlled on buildings and near
ventilation / air con units etc).

At any rate these were wood pigeons (wild birds) and part of living with
trees - the TPO was confirmed by members.

There are some good disturbance devices available too, which have
already been mentioned.

I've just had a bizarre conversation with a member of the public
regarding her wanting to remove a large number of branches from a TPO'd
tree because of all the bird poo being deposited.

Now in my limited experience of bird poo there was quite a lot - she
feels that there are health implications and wants to use that as a
reason to cut the branches back (way in excess of 30% reduction) - other
than the aforementioned problem there is no other reason for the work.

Anyone have any experience of this one before?
