how about hanging some cd's from the branches? This will surely scare
the
birds off and the flashing sunlight should draw the publics attention to
the
visual amenity of the tree!

Liam - I've had experience of this.
It is tricky finding a way of ridding a tree of birds however one
sensible
piece of advice I was given was that pigeons are birds of habit,
perching
after eating and then emptying their bowels on take off. If the birds
are
disturbed when they are perched and digesting they quite understandably
get
a bit annoyed! Should this disturbance become regular they'll find a new
place to digest.
It might be worth suggesting banging pans or catapulting soil at them
until
they find a new branch to sit on!
At the end of the day however, if the tree is protected and the works
will
be detrimental to the public amenity, the owner will have to find
another
solution or at least prove that there isn't one!
Good luck,
Alex

I've just had a bizarre conversation with a member of the public
regarding her wanting to remove a large number of branches from a TPO'd
tree because of all the bird poo being deposited.
Now in my limited experience of bird poo there was quite a lot - she
feels that there are health implications and wants to use that as a
reason to cut the branches back (way in excess of 30% reduction) - other
than the aforementioned problem there is no other reason for the work.
Anyone have any experience of this one before?
