Thats true Ed but I recently gave up my weekend to survey a site (fool that I
am) and saw the 'away from everything' trees you mentioned surrounded by
children being taught camp skills. I was not made aware that the portion of
land was used in this way at all and am glad I erred on the side of caution
in my findings. The instructors chose all of the'best' trees to hang around
on a windy day and nobody noticed or seemed worried about the OM Ash with the
big cavity. In fairness the tree had been weight reduced a few years ago but
I doubt that had been taken into account when organising events.
Kind regards

I am thoroughly enjoying this debate but can't help but contrast it with the
exhortation I see all too often in reports that all the trees on site must
hereafter be inspected annually by an expert, no matter that they may be
young vigorous and a long way from, well, anywhere. What I wonder will it
take to dissuade these experts?
Needless to say I always advise that there is no basis for the annual
inspection mantra.
