There's a beautifully formed thriving specimen adjacent to St. Annes Hall in 
Babbacombe which someone planted not so many moons ago. Excellent choice

Watch out if global warming comes, Topher - in hotter countries they are a
real pest and sucker/seed everywhere; in uk at present, I agree - a real
star of a tree.  When I was a student, squatting in S London in the people's
republic of Lambeth, there were Ailanthus as garden trees in the old
Victorian terraces of railway workers houses - really gave a lift to the
area.

Agree with you on germination - we have them springing up all over the
placefrom our big tree.  

But what a star it is - I remain mystified as to why they are not much more
widespread, at least in this part of the world.
