Hi Luke,

how do you know the brace is "still good"?

This is a situation that always worries me.
I've seen failures where cables have snapped, eyes have 'opened up'
or through bolts have broken.
I know that steel degrades (rusts) but by how much and over what period?
I've no clue!

How can we be confident of other people's workmanship or materials of
"over thirty years ago"?

I'm also having trouble being confident when I come across trees
where more 'modern' methods have been used.
I've seen claims for a useful life span of 5 or 10 years.
How much does support tail off as the materials start to degrade?
or does a metaphorical alarm clock go off, and the system's no longer
"safe"?

Regards,

Bill
