David,

'outraged'? Yes, I am. But hardly a 'bun fight'.

If it was intended in the vein of a full-on half hour special covering
the finer intricacies of tree planting, then fine, add critique. But
then make it founded and factual...... differentiation in growing methods and
root stock, the ins and outs of compost choice, removing glazing from the
hole, planting depth so as not to
exceed the root collar, re-instatement of soil to the correct depth so as to
avoid a "frost-well", the argument for low stake vs high stake..... even
going as far as
to highlight the use of mycorrhiza to aid root establishment, or discussing
follow on care such as weeding and mulching...... etc etc etc.

But surely, given the context of clip as nothing more than a 2ish minute
guide as to the basics, there was hardly a need to even comment, let
alone criticise the BBC for "failing in it's duty to provide a public
service"?

I mean, is that really what the AA and it's 2,000 members think of the beeb,
or was it just the throw-away personal opinion of it's director?

Regards

Andy

Thought this, and the 'outraged' comment, might be of interest...

I confess to having laughed audibly when I watched the clip and the stake
make its brief appearance before mercifully being discarded.

Cheers
