Thank you for your response Peter.

My reason behind the question is in response to an article in the
Horticulture Week (30th October 09, page 7 (catching up before xmas))
and Marishall Thompson Group who are undertaking trials to determine
species. They say it is critical to determine species where both are
implicated in cases relating to individual subsidence claims. If similar
species naturally root graft then this would make 'pointing the finger'
at a single tree even more challenging.
