As Chris Said, Autodesk do a free download of Trueview 2010. Great to
open newer DWG's. You can also convert them into an older format as you
require.
Useful, but the AutoCAD 2010lt is a dream to use. Glad I got shown how
to get going in AutoCAD though (Cheers Dom). It's not very intuitive.
Once you are there though, it's nice to be on the same level as all your
clients.

I use AutoCAD LT, though I don't have the ArborCAD add on. Tim makes a
good point about the upgrades, which is one of the irritations of using
Autodesk stuff - every so often the file format changes so old versions
won't read files created in newer releases. It's not unsumountable but
can be slightly embarassing asking clients to resend files in an earlier
version.
I would be careful with courses that aren't tailored to what you need.
Most arb work uses only a small part of what CAD programs can do, it is
possible to spend a lot of time being taught stuff that won't be
relevant. I managed by teaching myself, which was hard at first, and
picking up relevant bits from people I have worked with.
